About Kelly Kettle Base Camp

The Kelly Kettle Base Camp stainless steel camp kettle boils approximately 54 oz of water at a time – that’s nine 6 oz. mugs of water for camp coffee, tea or hot cocoa. The Kettle will bring water to a boil within a matter of minutes. Suitable for use at your ‘base camp’, car camping, scout camps, picnics, hunting, outfitters outposts. The kettles are ideal for emergency preparedness kits, humanitarian aid stations, or anyone working in the forests or the great outdoors.

Fire base and drawstring carrying bag are included with each Kelly Kettle. The durable stainless steel fire base inverts up into the bottom of the kettle to make the unit as compact as possible for transport and storage.

The Green Whistle has replaced the Orange stopper on the Kettles and will sound a nice loud whistle to let you know when the water has boiled. Older Kelly Kettles may have an Orange Rubber or Cork Stopper. These MUST ALWAYS be removed before using the kettle. The Kettle must never be boiled with these older stoppers in the spout, but the new camping kettle with whistle can be left in while the water is boiling.

The Kelly Kettles are cost free to run and eco-friendly as they use all natural fuel such as twigs, dry grass, heather, birch bark, pine cones, dry animal dung, etc. such as sticks, twigs. Add the Kelly Kettle Pot Support and Cook Set to your gear and prepare small amounts of food like noodles, rice, oatmeal, eggs, and hydrate food over the kettle while your water boils. Boil water and cook food at the same time using only a handful of fuel!

Better yet, grab a Kelly Kettle Hobo Stove accessory and turn the fire base of your kettle into a stand-alone wood fueled camping stove. Be sure to check out our Kelly Kettle Ultimate Kit offerings for the best value on Kelly Kettles and all the accessories.

Remember: The Kettle has been designed to boil water extremely fast in all weather conditions using very little fuel. When filled with water, the Kelly Kettle should always be carried upright to avoid any spillage/leakage from the water spout or chimney top.

Absolutely superb! Bought the Base Camp as my “Go To” stove for elk camp…hadn’t had any experience with the Kelly Kettle but it intrigued me. All I can say is, “Wow!”

Worked better than I had anticipated. The only drawback is its bulkiness, but I knew this going in. I have only used it on a 2-day trip so far, but I will be using it on an extended trip soon. Appears to be very well constructed and light (even the big Kelly Kettle, which is the one I purchased). Don’t burn yourself while putting the kettle on the stove of an already burning fire—it heats up so fast that flames literally come through the top opening on the kettle.

It boils water faster (5 minutes) than you can on a stove. Great for camping. Hope I never have to use it in an emergency but if I do, I am glad to know I have it.

Compact and easy to carry, works great, and is a very simple rocket mass heater. Get one and you won’t be disappointed. It is extremely well made and will last years and years. :-)

The Kelley Kettle is a great multi-tool. It will boil water while cooking food, using available fuels-sticks, dried grass, leaves, etc. The pot attachment makes heating cookware possible.

We have the Stainless Steel Base Camp Kelly Kettle. It’s been in constant use for the last four years; the sheer pleasure in any kind of weather in using this bit of kit is priceless. We keep a small jar full of used/dried tea bags soaking in meths, drop a soaked tea bag into the fire bucket add a spark, 100% instant fire just add twigs, etc. We’re just about to get the Hobbo Stove that sits on the fire bucket. Well done Kelly Kettle on a brilliant bit of kit!

We have power outages all the time here in Florida. We don’t require a hurricane to knock the power out, just give us a thunderstorm, or a hot day, or a passing cloud. This is a fantastic tool. I use it to make coffee/ tea for me, oatmeal for the children, it can purify water by boiling. Very handy!

Exactly what I was looking for. Boils water very quickly. Extremely simple to use and very easy to start a fire with solid heat with the way this is set up. No need to bring anything to start a fire. It was even able to light easily in wet conditions. I bought a pour over drip coffee and mornings while camping got much easier. Now I just need to save up to buy the accessories.

Very good quality steel and craftsmanship. I bought it specifically to go camping with so I can make coffee. I tried to use it at home before I go camping in August and am a little nervous about it. Wouldn’t recommend trying to boil water in it over the stove because the seal at the base of the kettle sounded like it wanted to pop open, allowing some water to seep out but I was not using the base that I’m supposed to sit it on top of so I’m not sure if that piece helps disburse the heat evenly up the kettle.

I decided I wanted to write about our top 10 favorite pieces of camping gear. Mark thought I was nuts. He loves his gear, all of it, and has far more than 10 things. I made him choose 10 anyway. Our Kelly Kettle ranks right up there in the top 10, of the things we love most.

I have the largest one but it’s easy to carry compared to other methods of cooking boiling water or just to get some heat. I intend to get another couple and will also try the smaller version and another large one. Thanks for making them available.

We often take others on our little outings and they are always impressed with what can be done with the Kelly Kettle. The biggest selling feature is the low environmental impact it has. We usually gather lichen, birch bark, horseshoe fungus, and twigs along the path, and very little is left after cooking the meal – most of which can be safely extinguished with the water in the kettle. Great product! For years we took little camp stoves with us and occasionally either lost knuckle hair lighting them or soaked the odd pack with the fluid. Despite the size, the kettle is a better pack item.

I’ve been using my base camp kettle in the Malaysian jungles and camping on tropical islands for about 5 years. Not much chance of bringing in or sourcing commercial fuels easily plus all the weight involved considering that we need to boil up from various water sources 6-8 litres each per day as well as the inconvenience and time in building fires and keeping them going. Getting the kettle really changed the dynamics of logistics! Conversely, the shape and build of the kettle allow the boiled water to cool down quickly to fill up canteens, especially since it can be easily immersed in a water source. With the new accessories, it keeps getting better (I had to hold the pan over the chimney before the pot support came out) and the hobo stove completes it. Plus factor – kids get to use the leftover embers in the base to polish off a break with toasted marshmallows, which don’t burn, as a bribe!

I really like my Kelly Kettle. I’ve had it several months now and it is a permanent part of my get-home bag. I work 500 miles from home so I put a lot of thought and testing into anything that goes into my bag. The reason that I have given it only 4 stars is that from the beginning it leaks a few drops of water around the bottom edge. I thought with use it might stop but it hasn’t. So carrying water in it is out of the question as it will leak on other items in my bag. That being said I have not looked into sending it back for a replacement and be without it as I feel it is an important part of my outfit. Heats water quickly with very little smoke or fuel. Inside the hollow portion, I keep a baggy full of dry twigs birch bark, split pine sticks, and a Bic lighter. I also made a heavier duty bag for it.

This kettle is so amazing, its design is flawless, and it has great value. I bought this kettle with the accessories and I have not had any kind of material problems, nor any operational problems; this kettle will work every time. Then it comes down to how good you are at making a fire. It boils the water in about 6 or so min, and the base is great for cooking. I’ve cooked some salmon in a foil packet and it came out very good. This product is just dandy in any kind of emergency preparedness kit.
