Description

Upgraded steel fire-base & drawstring carrying bag are included as standard with each Kelly Kettle. The fire bases invert up into the bottom of your Kelly Kettle to make the unit as compact as possible for transporting and storage.

A Highly Efficient Outdoor Camp Kettle, this Kelly Kettle is suitable for Trekkers, Hikers, Kayakers, Backpackers, Bikers, and all outdoors enthusiasts who need to keep their pack light. This lightweight Kettle is also suitable for Car Camping, Wilderness Survival Kits and Emergency Disaster Kits.

Because there is no need to carry fuel, this Kelly Kettle will keep your pack light and save you money at the same time – never worry about running out of fuel again! Using any naturally occurring solid fuel such as sticks, pine cones, dry grass and even dry animal dung; this Kettle will operate perfectly, even in stormy conditions and will bring 2.5 cups (0.6 liters or 20 oz) of water to a rolling boil within a matter of minutes.

If more hot water is required, simply refill the kettle and place it back on the fire base and refuel the chimney again. The kettle will boil again within a matter of minutes where water can be used for more hot drinks, bathing, and washing up.
Fits Perfectly in any Backpack. Lighten your load with the Aluminum Kelly Kettle Trekker.
Please note: The Kettle has been designed to boil water extremely fast in all weather conditions using very little fuel. When filled with water, the Kelly Kettle should always be carried upright to avoid any spillage/leakage from the water spout or chimney top.

Older Kettles may have an Orange Rubber or Cork Stopper. These MUST ALWAYS be removed before using the kettle. The Kettle must never be boiled with these older stoppers in the spout.

I have used the Kelly Kettles for years, and especially like using them on deployment with the military. The Trekker model works great for me and will boil faster than anything else. When it was time for tea, the Iraqi’s attached with us would always invite me to fire up the kettle. I use the aluminum and the stainless steel kettles and love them both. Thanks for making such a wonderful product!

Great piece of kit. Has some limitations though. This was bought for me a while back and I have to say, I love the Kelly Kettle! Especially with the cook kit I bought, it’s everything you need in one piece of kit. However, I have experienced one or two issues with the Alu trekker. Firstly for me it’s a little small, I tend to have one or 2 people with me on trips and it can become a slow process making tea/coffee, so next time out I’ll buy the scout or basecamp. If you’re all about lightweight gear. This is the kettle for you. Barely feel it in my pack! However be warned, Aluminium tends to dent easily, I know from experience, one fell from my hands slid onto a rock when it was still a little warm and it’s quite badly dented. And there’s another limitation. The Aluminium won’t last as long and doesn’t react well to prolonged heating, my firebase has warped slightly because I left the fire lit for a while after I finished cooking one evening. So to summarise, if you want a kettle that’s perfect for solo hikers and solo overnighters that’s light and versatile this is for you. But compared to stainless steel, you will need to more careful and be prepared to compromise longevity for weight.

My kettle just arrived, 5 days after ordering (shipment to Belgium) and I immediately tried it. It was quite windy, but there was no problem to light the fire in the firebase. Placing the kettle on top creates a chimney effect, in which even the most inexperienced fire-maker can make a good fire really quick. Four and a half minutes after starting the fire, I had a rolling cook with a ridiculously low amount of firewood used. Probably because of the relatively low temperature of the chimney wall (not much above 100°C, I guess), the type of soot on the inside is very oily and has a strong odour. I’m not sure the included bag will keep this odor out of the rest of your backpack contents, so maybe put the kettle in an airtight bag to avoid having all your trekking clothes smelling like smoke on a wet campfire.

    Dear Kelly Kettle,

Well, the Kelly Kettle arrived this morning here in Torrevieja and I tried it out with wood pellets (6 euro /15-kilo bag here) and I was amazed at how fast it brought the 2 cups of water to the boil. Like everyone else, I’m economizing in this recession and I got the Kelly kettle as a backup for when the gas goes and to occasionally boil a cup of water for tea. I’m using it on the balcony and no problem. Rating the Kelly kettle on a scale of ten I would give it 10 out of 10. I would recommend it fully.

I have both the large Base Camp kettle in stainless steel, and the Trekker in aluminum. While the Base Camp is great for automobile camping, it’s a bit too large for my pack – and this is where the Trekker model comes in. The aluminum Trekker kettle fits in my 3-day pack without a problem and is light enough not to worry about. (Some of the bulkiness of the kettle is mitigated by storing items inside the chimney.) Each boil typically takes me about four minutes using scrap paper and twigs as fuel and provides enough boiling water to reconstitute a single Mountain House freeze-dried meal. (While waiting for the meal to reconstitute, I can have a second boil completed for a mug of tea or coffee, with enough hot water left over for cleaning up.) The ability to use “found” fuel helps lighten my pack and eliminates gas wastage from a conventional backpacking stove. In closing, I also find this to be a great bit of kit that I can highly recommend- it’s well worth making room in your pack for it. If you’re on the fence about the aluminum model- I have found no faults with it whatsoever. (Just don’t bang it around on rocks or run it dry…)
